The museum was established in 1939 in the Ozona school and moved to its current location in 1958. The museum building formerly housed the Ozona Methodist Church, which was built in 1926 and burned in 1942. For a time until 1956, the building was a hospital. When the building became the courthouse annex, the museum was relocated there. In 1998, the museum began restoration as the sole occupant of the building.
