Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 2.69% of the population.Of the 828 households, 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.5% were married couples living together, 18.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were not families. About 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01.In the city, the population was distributed as 27.4% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 79.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 72.2 males.The median income for a household in the city was $25,438, and for a family was $32,381. Males had a median income of $30,144 versus $20,060 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,839. About 22.6% of families and 26.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 33.9% of those under age 18 and 17.2% of those age 65 or over.
